Professional Summary

I am a multi-skilled journalist with experience in feature writing, editing, video production, SEO, management and photography.

I currently serve as an administrative assistant at Ithaca College in the newly created Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. It is wonderful to be working for my alma matter in an office that is focused on creating a better campus community. My focus here is to support of faculty, staff, and student directors in event planning, finance management, and campus partner support through various channels.

My bachelor's degree in journalism was earned at Ithaca College in the Roy H Park School of Communications. During my undergraduate program, I worked for The Ithacan, ICTV, and completed internships with The Ithaca Voice and the National Parks of New York Harbor. Through the two media outlets, I have written and photographed sports, local news & politics, and environmental news for the Ithaca, NY area. From February 2023 to September, I worked for Tompkins Weekly as the managing editor. Tompkins Weekly, as the name suggests, serves all of Tompkins County, N.Y. as a weekly print and digital paper. Additionally, I run a blog focusing on Lgbtqia+ news and lifestyle called Louder.

In summer 2022, I lived in Westchester County for my internship in NYC with the NPS. During this time, I ran their social media, produced video content for social and online publication, and worked with the 11 NYC national parks and historic sites on their websites. What I find to be most rewarding about this experience is the service I was able to provide to both in-person and online visitors through video content and volunteer work with Mather High School.

While my time at Tompkins Weekly was 8 months, I feel like I have been there for a lifetime, and this is a positive feeling. The experience gained and community members I met made this experience unforgettable. I truly love local news and being immersed in a community that I value was amazing. See below for more details. Samples of newspaper layouts can be found on the Tompkins Weekly website under "Archives" -> "E-editions."

Work Experience

February 2023-September 2023

Tompkins Weekly - Managing Editor

  • Researched community interests regularly to produce 2 weekly feature stories; one often focused on community issues such as politics and development while the other focused on local arts and culture.

  • Articles as needed; filled in for town writers as needed and wrote Small Towns and Thinking Ahead columns on a monthly basis.

  • Manage freelance writers; lead a team of seven regular freelancers, 2 copy editors, and one seasonal intern, hired town writer replacements as needed. This required consistent communication between me, writers, and the publisher.

  • Determine weekly's page count based on planned content and advertising requirement for the week, prefill puzzle and classified pages.

  • Once page count is determined, create a mock page layout for early review by the publisher. Once the mock layout was edited and finalized, pages could be filled with content as it was created/edited and reviewed. A final newspaper layout was reviewed by the publisher and adjusted before being sent for print.

  • Communicate with advertising team throughout the week to make sure the proper ads were ready for print and digital spaces; work with the team and their clients to make needed adjustments.

2018-2022

The Ithacan- Various Positions/ Multi-media Co-Editor

For four years I have worked with The Ithacan. I started as a staff member covering sports, news and photography. In my fourth and final year, I was the Multimedia Co-Editor. My focus here has been team building and management alongside video production and shared social media management duties.

2021-2021

The Ithaca Voice- Reporting Intern/Freelance Writer

My time with The Voice focused on "On-the-ground" community reporting and researching larger impact stories for their website. Because it is a small independent outlet, I was able to see some of the finance management and sponsor work that the Interim Director was doing which I found to be invaluable. I gained small newsroom experience, website and social media management skills, and continued to strengthen my reporting knowledge and abilities. By the end of the internship I was offered a position as a freelance reporter and photographer and accepted. To read my articles easily click here.

2020-2021
